Why this DNC is Hiding its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: An Analysis.

The decision from the DNC to withhold the public viewing regarding its own autopsy report concerning the last presidential race appears shocking yet not surprising. Opposed to frank assessments, the party's leadership apparatus behaves more like a communications shop rather than a political organization focused on cultivating grassroots capacities capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Climate of Conformity

Hesitant to challenge the party establishment's culture of conformity, the DNC has stayed under that legacy throughout this past year. Making public such a report could have demonstrated whether the leadership are interested to foster public discourse regarding the missteps that paved the way for Donald Trump to return to the White House. Instead, the committee is acting as if there's nothing to understand following the stunning loss of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: will this lead to victory? Should the answer be negative, it becomes a sideline issue from the core mission," a justification which was presented to justify concealing the document.

Key Issues a Report Might Have Explored

A genuine analysis of substance would confront certain uncomfortable matters. Among them are:

  • Electoral Disengagement: Failing to retain of millions of voters who voted for the Democratic ticket in 2020 was decisive in the close recent race.
  • The Choice to Seek Re-election: The determined decision of the incumbent to seek re-election, alongside a very late exit, is seen by some as robbing the party's base the chance for a genuine choice.
  • Failing Everyday Americans: Amid inflation, the campaign reportedly ceding to corporate donors' interests and not managing to address the effects of profit-seeking.
  • A Gaza Factor: The failure to shift a policy position on a ongoing war is cited as driving away key demographic groups, especially with young people, Arab-Americans, Muslim voters.
  • A Decline in Youth Support: Extensive evidence indicates a major drop-off in support for the party among the youth electorate.

A Pattern of Evasion

This refusal fits a pattern of evading difficult realities. It recalls an episode in which nearly all Democratic officeholder in Washington went along with an incumbent's insistence on running for re-election until a disastrous campaign event led to a reversal.

At the same time, a significant majority of the electorate had been continually telling researchers of their opposition to the incumbent to seek re-election.

Financial Concerns

A thorough autopsy would also examine questions about where money went, such as how much money went to party strategists and ad buyers during a campaign which expended a colossal war chest over a few months.

The Underlying Problem

At its core, the blockage of the official autopsy points to a deference to party leaders who engineered an unsuccessful presidential campaign. The signal to ordinary supporters – including countless dedicated activists – is that they do not have a right to see what the insiders have learned based on hundreds of interviews drawing from feedback from all states.

A party unwilling to critically review its mistakes finds it difficult to climb out of the rut which was so advantageous to the rival party.
